A 16-year-old Dowagiac girl remained in stable condition early Wednesday following a single-vehicle crash in Cass County.

The accident happened when Ashley Charles was driving on Dailey Road near Pine Lake Street Tuesday morning and drove off the shoulder of the road.

She then hit several trees, according to a press release from the Cass County Sheriff’s Department.

Ashley was extricated from the vehicle and flown to a South Bend hospital, police said. Hospital staff did not release other details about her condition.

Police say alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the crash, and the driver was wearing her seat belt.

The case is still under investigation.
