Four Kentucky residents are dead following a head-on collision in Whitley County Tuesday afternoon.

The accident happened on Indiana 5 about 3:45 p.m. when a northbound Dodge Neon tried to pass in a no-passing zone south of Division Road.

The car then collided with a southbound sport utility vehicle, killing all four people inside the Neon, according to the Whitley County Sheriff’s Department.

The identities of the victims, two males and two females, have not been released pending notification of their families.

However, media reports in Kentucky identified the victims as residents of that state. Whitley County officials confirmed Thursday that the victims are, in fact, from Kentucky, but declined to provide other details.

The driver of the SUV, 56-year-old John Brooks of Roanoke, Ind., was taken to Parkview Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
