Four charged in Birdsell Street shooting death

SOUTH BEND — Charges have been filed against four people in connection with the shooting death of a 21-year-old man.

Derrius Brown, 19; Benjamin Harris, 22; and Michael Mason, 19, all of South Bend, have each been charged with one count of murder in the death of Phillip Bell.

Brittney Jones, 23, also of South Bend, has been charged with one count of murder, and one count of assisting a criminal, a Class C felony, in connection with the shooting.

Bell, of South Bend, was found dead Oct. 21 in the 600 block of Birdsell Street. He had been shot multiple times and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The defendants are being held without bond in the St. Joseph County Jail.
