Man in motorized wheelchair robbed in South Bend

By WSBT 24/7 News

A 37-year-old man was robbed and nearly knocked off his wheelchair on Scott Street early Monday, he told South Bend Police.

The victim was heading south on a motorized wheelchair when a man approached asking for a cigarette, the victim said.

The robber began reaching into the victim’s pocket, starting off a scuffle that nearly toppled the victim off his wheelchair.

As the victim steadied himself, the robber snatched an envelope filled with cash from the man.

The robber fled the scene with several hundred dollars, the victim told police.
