Elkhart business evacuated because of large gas leak

By WSBT 24/7 News

A gas leak at an Elkhart business led to evacuations of the facility Thursday morning.

The leak was reported shortly before 6:30 a.m. at Temple Products, Elkhart 911 dispatch said. That’s in the 4500 block of Pine Creek Road, just off County Road 15 on Elkhart’s east side.

Arriving crews reported a significant gas leak at the plant, caused by a forklift that hit the line outside the building, police told WSBT News.

There were no injuries or illnesses because of the leak.

Temple Products is a Postle Distributors Inc. company, and the site includes aluminum extrusion mills as well as a large warehouse.

Authorities did not shut down nearby County Road 15 and the surrounding area, but briefly closed Pine Creek Road until they permitted people to return to the plant and adjacent buildings.
