Budget problems forced Michigan to lay off 100 state troopers, including 11 in our area.

They expected to get back on the job now that the state budget is in place, but it turns out they will have to wait a little longer.

Governor Jennifer Granholm's spokeswoman says the budget office still needs about another week to review the state police budget, even though the governor already signed it.

The governor intends to recall at least some of them, but didn't say how many. She says she doesn't want to recall all them and then have to lay some of them off again in January because of a revenue shortfall.

The state is struggling to keep the budget balanced as revenues decline.
