Leaf fire spreads to Elkhart home

ELKHART – Firefighters responded to a fire involving an Elkhart home that allegedly started as a leaf burn in an adjacent field.

Shortly after 1 p.m., Elkhart dispatch received a call about a fire in the 3600 block of Bedford Court.

According to dispatch, the fire started by spreading to neighboring trees in the field and moved between two housing developments. The fire entered the basement of the home and was contained but the windows had to be broken out.

No one was home at the time of the blaze. The fire also burned a neighboring shed.

11 fire trucks responded to the call.blaze.
