SOUTH BEND ― Officials say two men were sentenced for their roles in the October 27, 2008 robbery that led to the murder of Justin Bird.

James Bucher and Jacob Manriquez were sentenced for conspiracy to commit robbery. Neither man was present when the robbery occurred, say officials, but they conspired with Alex Milewski to rob a woman who was selling marijuana.

Milewski was the only one who carried out the plans. During the attempted robbery, Justin Bird tried to help the woman and was shot and killed by Milewski.

Milewski has already pleaded guilty to murder and was sentenced to 55 years.

Bucher, who has an extensive criminal history, was sentenced to 45 years.

Manriquez, who has no criminal history, was sentenced to 20 years. Five years will be executed, with 15 years suspended and 10 years probation.
