MISHAWAKA — Another stretch of the Mishawaka Riverwalk opened to the public Saturday. The missing link that separated the Kamm Island area from Logan Street is now connected.

Walkers and joggers and outdoor lovers can walk for about three miles along the St. Joseph River without ever encountering street traffic.

The area also features a newly-renovated restroom and a much improved boat launch at Lincoln Park behind the water treatment plant.

"We know people like to fish. Some people call us Fishawaka from time to time, so anything we can do to enhance that opportunity is good, too," said Mayor Jeff Rea.

Saturday's opening of the final extension of the Riverwalk has been a long time in coming. It was back in 1991 that the first plans for the entire Riverwalk system were unveiled.
