Police say a minivan rolled over into the Indiana Toll Road median just after 2 a.m. Sunday, injuring eight people — killing one and leaving one in critical condition.

For two hours, east and westbound traffic were closed on the oll Road near the 48 mile marker in LaPorte County.

Per the Indiana State Police-Toll Road District, A 45-year-old woman died from injuries received when she was ejected from the vehicle.

One patient was airlifted to Memorial Hospital of South Bend. That patient is in critical condition as of 6:30 a.m., according to a nursing supervisor.

And police say a child was taken by ambulance to Riley Hospital in Indianapolis. Because of fog, emergency responders were unable to transport the child using a helicopter.

Information about the extent of the child’s injuries has not been released.

Police are still investigating the accident, but say the driver was cited for unsafe lane movement and for two child restraint violations.

All lanes were reopened by 4:30 a.m.
