NAPPANEE -- According to Elkhart County police, two cars collided Saturday night at a stop sign at the intersection of County Road 3 and County Road 46 about two miles north of Nappanee.

Police said a 1994 Buick LeSabre was traveling north on County Road 3, south of County Road 46, and a 2004 Ford F350 was headed west on County Road 46, east of County Road 3, when the two vehicles met at the stop sign. They said the LeSabre stopped at the sign but proceeded to cross 46 directly into the path of the F350.

Police said that, after the collision, the driver of the LeSabre fled the accident but was found shortly thereafter by officers from Bremen Police Department. A passenger in the vehicle, a 97-year-old Mishawaka woman, suffered injuries and was transported to Bremen Hospital with back pain and a possible broken arm.

No citations were given. The accident, which was reported at 619 p.m., is still under investigation.

All passengers were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the accident, police said.
