PLYMOUTH — An Indiana soldier killed in the Fort Hood shooting rampage was laid to rest Saturday. Staff Sergeant Justin DeCrow, 32, was one of 13 soldiers killed earlier this month at Fort Hood in Texas.

Hundreds of mourners lined the streets in Plymouth to show their support to his family and honor his service.

There was not an empty spot along Michigan Street.

“We support our military every chance we get,” Dawn Hamel of Valparaiso said. “Even in death we are there to support the families.”

DeCrow was married and had a 13-year-old daughter.

“Being a military wife for so many years, I just thought I needed to come out here and say farewell,” Cheri Dolph of Plymouth said.

"I think it is important to the family of the soldier to know he is supported by so many people,” Joe Seliga of Plymouth said.

The mood was somber as the procession was seen in the distance. Law enforcement and members of the Patriot Guard led the way.

Besides the roar of their engines, not a sound was heard throughout the crowd as DeCrow's body, carried by a white hearse, made its way through town for the last time.

"He was doing a job you and I don't do,” Harmel said. “We could have easily all volunteered to go. But he was one who stood up and said I'll go. I'll serve my country. I'll serve our freedom."

DeCrow was laid to rest at the New Oakhill Cemetery in Plymouth with full military honors.

"We just all love him here. It is just so sad that this is how it all has to end,” Dolph said. “Back in Plymouth, Indiana where it all began."
