(AP Photo/Michael Conroy) SOUTH BEND — A disappointing loss to UConn Saturday is fueling the fire for fans who want to see something change at the top of the Notre Dame football program. Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick re-iterated the stance he's taken all week. He's going to make his announcement at the end of the regular season, which is next Saturday. Swarbrick has also been adamant in the past that he expects more from this program than they've shown. The feeling is echoed by fans. Hopes were high at kick-off Saturday. "I think Notre Dame will win. UConn has had couple straight loses. I think the team is going to do well," said one fan at the start of the game. "I am hoping we win. I'd like to see an Irish victory," said another. That excitement was not enough to boost the Irish to a win, and the final outcome could be seen on the faces of fans. "I think it was pretty pathetic. They came out flat and slow. Got a few scores early in but couldn't get anything going the rest of the day. Couldn't stop the run. It has been our story all year," said Travis Speicher. After the game, a few fans said they will remain faithful to Coach Charlie Weis. "I still think he has got a great future with Notre Dame. I think he is a great coach and he will do great things for the team," said Alex Stoyanov. But most were looking for change. "I think what is next for Charlie is he is going to the NFL and he is going to be an offensive coordinator," said Neel Gleason. Weis declined to talk about his future after the game, saying it wasn't the time. "Today's not the day for me to reflect on things like that. I mean today's the day for me to be worrying about those guys, those 33 guys," he said, referring to seniors on the roster. "I really feel absolutely miserable for those 33 guys. ... I'll worry about me tomorrow. But I think today I should be worrying about them." The Associated Press contributed to this report. Most PopularMore Good StuffAdvertisement
