Crews battle rash of South Bend fires

South Bend firefighters went from one call to the next Sunday night, extinguishing four different blazes across the city.

Crews were sent to 1136 E. Byron St. about 5:45 p.m. after fire broke out along the chimney of the home, extending from the fireplace.

The occupants were home at the time and called when they noticed smoke in the home, the department said in a press release.

No one was injured because of the fire.

The next fire was reported in the 1600 block of North Chicago about 7 p.m. There were no reports of injuries or any word on the cause of the blaze.

Other fires Sunday night included:

  • A fire reported at 8:34 near the intersection of Linden Avenue and Olive Street that remains under investigation.

  • A fire reported at 8:59 p.m. in the 1700 block of O’Brien Street, also under investigation.
