South Bend woman dies in Goshen-area accident

A South Bend woman has died following a Tuesday afternoon traffic accident west of Goshen.

Gloria Carr, 73, was headed east on County Road 28 about 4 p.m. when she stopped at the stop sign at County Road 11, according to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department.

After she stopped, Carr pulled into the intersection to cross and collided with a pickup truck driven by Ryan Wilkinson, 36, of Albion, Ind.

Wilkinson told police that he struck Carr’s driver’s side door as she tried to cross the road in front of him.

Carr was pronounced dead at the scene. Wilkinson was not injured, but two of his four passengers were treated for minor injuries at Goshen General Hospital.

The accident remains under investigation, the Sheriff’s Department said.
