MISHAWAKA - This has been a very difficult year for many families in our community. That's why WSBT and the United Way have teamed up for 22 Ways to Live United.

The donation drive started at 5am on Friday and didn’t wrap up until 7pm. People stopped by with donations all day.

“I try to do it all year if I can but it's more important I think, this time of year especially with the need as big as it is around the whole area now,” said Mark Behensky who made a donation.

People who work in the community have seen firsthand the need that's out there.

“I've worked with the United Way over the past year I've seen the need in these communities and surrounding areas,” said Monica Wilson of the United Way in Kosciusko County.

Jack Gibboney is a volunteer at the Food Bank and added, “It's scary [the need] is so high and all the organizations have been very charitable.”

Even through the cold temperatures people have been out taking your donations.

“Well actually, my motto has been just stay out and don't go inside and get warm because then you're just tricking yourself into thinking you’re going to be warm and it's not working,” added Wilson.

One gentleman made a donation early in the day and then came back with his convertible top down! The constant theme throughout the day was a simple one.

“Well, I just wanted to help. Every year I give food,” said Claire Klinedinst who made donation.

“I just felt like I needed to give back to people who are less fortunate than I am,” added Behensky.

You can still make donations at WSBT.com.
