ELKHART — A local company says it has a plan that could create more jobs and help local companies save money and go green.

The idea: Produce traditional packing that you can reuse. The Elkhart company, Green Boomerang, says it could mean better business nationwide.

“The things on our website can be used over and over again, sometimes 20 to 30 times or more,” said Levi Hazen, Green Boomerang product manager.

Local companies like Welch Packaging, will be contracted to make the items – whether it is corrugated card board, plastic pallets, or special racking systems.

Green Boomerang says its new reusable packaging system will save customers time and money.

“It actually allows the consumer that wants to buy the smaller quantity an opportunity to get a very, very competitive price on that product, and at the same time help the environment,” said Jay Weldy of Welch Packaging.

“With returnable packaging, it’s not more expensive. It's a very economical solution, especially with the online availability,” said Jesse Bohannon, Green Boomerang account manager

They say they would like their business to become the Amazon or Travelocity for packaging needs – whether at home, at businesses, schools or churches, locally as well as around the country.

“People can go online. They can buy returnable packaging for corporate pricing. That's really going to save them a lot of money, as opposed to using a package and throwing it away, buying another box and throwing it away,” said Hazen.

“We wanted to just make it very practical,” said Chad Root, Green Boomerang’s president. “Sustainability just means it’s something that can be repeated over and over again. It’s good for everybody involved.”
