SOUTH BEND – Police say a suspect in a shooting spree that left one man injured apparently fled to Florida, where he was captured Sunday.
Police say Dominique Clark, 18, was arrested by police in Dade County, where Miami is located, either late Saturday or early Sunday morning.
Clark had been labeled "as person of interest" in a Dec. 27 shooting spree that started after a man stole ammunition from the Wal-Mart store on West Ireland Road.
Within the next hour, police say Clark and at least three other people, one who has been arrested, were involved in three more shooting attempts.
Police say the suspects fired shots at a Wal-Mart store employee as they were fleeing the store, then fired shots at an apartment in the Irish Hill apartment complex, then shot and injured a 58-year-old man in an attempted robbery near the corner of Ironwood Drive and Inwood Road, and finally fired shots at homes along Eckman Street as they drove through the area.
The day after the spree, police announced they had arrested one man, 19-year-old Miguel Perez of South Bend, in connection with the spree, but a third or fourth suspect has not been named.
South Bend police spokesman Capt. Phil Trent say police are now calling Clark a suspect in the case and expect him to be charged with attempted murder, robbery, theft and three charges of criminal recklessness.
Trent said Clark was found in Florida with four other Indiana residents, three adult males from South Bend and a 17-year-old girl from St. Joseph County, who had been listed by her parents as a runaway.
Trent said the three adults have also been arrested, accused of assisting a criminal.
Police in Florida were able to find Clark and his entourage because the car he was traveling in belonged to the 17-year-old’s father and had been reported stolen.
According to Dade County court records, Clark is being held in a Miami jail on a fugitive warrant and is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 19.
