New Warrants Filed Against Escapees; Police Looking For Car

By Jim Pinkerton

(WSBT) Six inmates broke out of jail, but Wednesday night, the five still on the loose were facing even more charges. Felony escape warrants were issued as investigators try to track them down.

The inmates apparently climbed over a wall and cut through a fence to escape Monday night. 17-year-old Edward Booker is the only one apprehended so far.

Detectives believe another inmate was hurt during the escape. Based off shoe impressions and interviews with Booker, they believe Esmereldo Romo hurt his foot or leg when he jumped.

Officers across Michiana continue to concentrate locally for any sign of Romo and the four other men, but now they're thinking nationally as well.

Wednesday, as the internal inquiry into the escape continued, tips continued to pour in. Detectives interviewed the inmates' family and friends.

Police are looking for what they're calling a vehicle of interest. It's a gray four-door 1989 Volvo with Indiana license plate 71 CH 526.

The sheriff's department says the individuals still at large are:

  • Esmerardo Romo, 34, of Goshen, Hispanic male, 5'7", 145 pounds, black hair and brown eyes (pending charges include dealing cocaine and marijuana).

  • Lee Phillip Sims, 29, of Elkhart, black male, 5'11", 180 pounds, black hair and brown eyes (pending charges include dealing cocaine and public intoxication).

  • Gregory Francis Young, 28, of South Bend, white male, 5'6", 125 pounds, brown hair and brown eyes (pending charges include burglary, robbery with a firearm, possession of marijuana and other narcotics).

  • Victor Manuel Amezuca Solorio, 24, of Elkhart, Hispanic male, 5'6", 190 pounds, black hair and brown eyes (pending charges include dealing narcotics, possession of marijuana and resisting law enforcement).

  • Manuel Anguiano, 25, of Elkhart, Hispanic male, 5'9", 173 pounds, black hair and black eyes (pending charges include dealing cocaine).
