David Snyder jailed for non-payment of child support

By Beth Boehne

(WSBT) A judge sentenced David Snyder to jail after he was found in contempt of court for not paying child support.

Around 10:30 a.m. Thursday, a South Bend court sentenced David Snyder to 45 days in jail. Snyder can be released early if he pays $10,400, which is 10 percent of what he owes in total for child support for his two children, who currently live in Texas with his ex-wife.

Before he was led away by police he asked the judge if he could wait until Monday to go to jail. She denied his request.

Earlier this year Snyder was held in contempt of court for failing to keep up with his child support payments. At that time Snyder's real estate license was revoked because he failed to live up to his payment plan.

"I think the judge finally got it right,” said Roseland business owner Janet Stephens. “He's been hiding stuff all along, and she figured him out. Justice was finally served. I hope he stays there for the whole 45 days."

Dorothy Snyder told WSBT News she is working on borrowing the money to get her husband released from jail.

David Snyder was supposed to be in federal court Thursday on another case — a civil case against Snyder dating back to 2005. The judge said that court will make note that Snyder is currently in jail.

Some say since Snyder's arrest he should not be allowed to serve on Roseland's town council.
