Task Force Looks at Intermodal in LaPorte County

By Beth Boehne

(WSBT) LaPorte County is forming a task force to look into a proposed intermodal freight terminal for the county.

The commission president says they intend to follow a recommendation that a properly sited intermodal must have input and participation from all stakeholders.

That begins Tuesday night with a public meeting at 7 p.m. at the Union Mills Fire Department, which is located on 800 S., west of Highway 39.

The massive distribution centers are a transfer point between trains and semi-trucks and could provide hundreds of jobs.

WSBT News will be at tonight's meeting, and we'll bring you more at 10 p.m. and 11 p.m.
