Police Arrest ‘Suspicious Vehicle’ Driver after Chase in Plymouth

By Beth Boehne

(SBT24/7News) A North Judson man learned it’s not a good idea to drive an allegedly stolen car around Plymouth.

The 20-year-old man, who had not been charged Tuesday morning, was arrested at 2:41 a.m. Tuesday. He was held in the Marshall County Jail on suspicion of resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, possession of a stolen vehicle and being an unlicensed driver.

Assistant Police Chief David Bacon said Officer Chris Miller had been dispatched to North Michigan Street, in the area of Hoham Drive, resulting from a call received of a suspicious vehicle.

When Miller arrived, he noticed a vehicle driving through the parking lot of one of the motels in that area. As Miller continued checking the parking lot, Bacon said, the vehicle drove away. Miller observed the driver weaving back on the road, “going over the fog line,” Bacon said Tuesday morning.

Miller attempted to stop the man, but the driver took off, leading Miller to Western Avenue in the area of the intersection with Council Street. Bacon said the driver attempted to take the vehicle through the open field west of the Kroger grocery store, 2001 N. Michigan St. The vehicle, however, “got hung up” on debris in the field, Bacon said.

The driver then ran away through the parking lot of Kroger and south toward other businesses in the shopping center, Bacon said. Miller was able to apprehend the man in the parking lot in the same shopping center.

During the course of the investigation, Knox police informed Plymouth officers that the vehicle had been stolen. Bacon said the victim “didn’t even know it was gone yet,” and did not know the alleged thief.

Bacon said the case remains under investigation.
