(WSBT) Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels weighed in on a plan to eliminate property taxes.

Republican State Representative Jackie Walorski has been one of the legislators pushing the plan.

During his visit to Lakeville Tuesday to help open the new intersection at U.S. 31, the governor talked about the idea.

"We ought to look and see. We certainly need to head in that direction and go as far as we can,” Daniels told WSBT News. “There's a great way to start, which is counties can eliminate about a third of their property taxes. And that could happen this afternoon, simply by using the authority they have to reduce property taxes dollar for dollar, switch to a small income tax."

Walorski says the state could make up lost property tax money trough increases in the sales and income taxes.
