Teeing It Up in Rememberence of Manhole Murder Victim

By WSBT News1

(WSBT) Saturday family members of one of the victims of South Bend's manhole murders held a memorial golf outing.

The cousin of Michael “Shan” Nolen, Jr. organized the fundraiser held at Tri-Way Golf Course in Plymouth. About 30 people signed up to take part. The money raised will go to the Hope Rescue Mission in South Bend and the Broadway Christian Parish.

“The Hope Rescue Mission and the Broadway Christian Parish are two organizations in the South Bend area that have really been helpful to the homeless and provided assistance with no questions asked. There's no qualifications. They're just there for the people that need them," said Nolen's father, Michael Nolen, Sr. "We've got a lot of great agencies in town that help people but those are two of the places that will just take these folks in and help them with their needs and don’t judge them.”

Nolen, Sr. said he was humbled by the number of people who came out to honor his son.

In addition to the golf outing, about 20 people also bought tickets to a luncheon to raise additional funds for the cause.

The family hopes to raise a couple thousand dollars from Saturday's event. They want to make it an annual tradition.
