Officer's Killer Denied Psychological Exam

By Tiffany Griffin

(SBT24/7News) The South Bend teen who shot and killed police Cpl. Scott Severns will not undergo psychological testing before he is sentenced Wednesday, Judge Roland Chamblee Jr. ruled Friday.

Jeffrey L. Finley now faces a 1 p.m. Wednesday hearing to determine whether his sentence will be life in prison without the possibility of parole for murder, felony murder, and robbery resulting in serious bodily injury.

Finley pleaded guilty to those charges, but his attorney had asked the court last week to consider a psychological exam to determine whether there were factors in Finley’s background that should be considered to lower his sentence.
