Investigators Suspect Arson in Two Morning Fires

By WSBT News1

(WSBT) Investigators are looking into two possible arsons at vacant homes in South Bend. Firefighters responded to two separate fires on the west side about an hour apart from each other.

The first fire, reported shortly after midnight, was in the 500 block of East Haney Street. That blaze was quickly controlled — and a little more than an hour later, crews left that scene to fight another fire.

That second fire was in the 2400 block of West Westmoor, also on the city's west side. Flames were shooting from the front door when firefighters arrived.

Both fires are under investigation by the city's arson units, police dispatchers said.
