(WSBT) The military is still not saying how a local soldier died in Iraq.

Family members tell WSBT News Sgt. Nick Patterson was killed this week. He was a 2001 graduate of Rochester High School.

WSBT News has learned Earl Love Funeral Home in Akron is handling the funeral arrangements.

Patterson's family is waiting for word on when his body will return to the United States.

They are also waiting for his wife to arrive in Indiana from North Carolina. Patterson was based at Fort Bragg, which is near Fayetteville, N.C.

WSBT News was told Army representatives visited the family Tuesday.

Patterson was a popular athlete at Rochester High. The school's principal says the school will hold a memorial service there, if the family wants it to be held.
