Snyder's ex-wife: Holding him accountable is long overdue

(WSBT) A local town official has bonded out of jail again.

Police arrested Roseland Town Council member David Snyder Monday morning for not making his monthly child support payment.

“He pays every month $200. Every month he pays. It’s not like this man is not paying anything,” said Dorothy Snyder of her husband.

But according to the courts, that’s not enough. David Snyder was sent back to jail for not following a court order to get a job and pay $1,800 a month in child support to his two sons in Texas.

“I am very happy. There is finally somebody that's going to hold him accountable for his kids. I think it's long overdue, and I'm obviously very happy,” Snyder’s ex-wife Julianne Mayfield told WSBT News.

Snyder has claimed he can't afford to pay child support since a judge revoked his real estate license earlier this year.

“He has no way to make money. They have assured that,” exclaimed Dorothy Snyder, who believes her husband is being unfairly targeted.

However, Snyder does come up with the money when it comes time to get out of jail.

In 2005, he came up with more than $11,000 in back child support after being jailed for the same reason.

In July, Snyder paid more than $10,000 of the $104,000 he owes in back child support.

On Monday, he paid $20,800 to get out of jail.

Mayfield says she doesn’t plan to stop fighting for the child support owed anytime soon.

“I have a disabled child who will never live independently — he will always have to be taken care of. So, you bet, of course I'm going to keep fighting for it,” said Mayfield. “I think it's important he support his children. I think it's important any father supports his children.”

The Snyders say they used credit cards and borrowed from family and friends to pay the bond, just as they have in the past.

I too am a mom with a disabled son. Just got done with court and dad deliberatly quit working and canceled our son off the insurance which didnt cost him a dime extra to cover dependant. This sorry excuse of a man intentionally caused his child harm by making it impossible for his son to ever be able to obtain private insurance again. Which we all know is a huge asset as the gov. funded programs fall short. Jail is too easy for thease ignorant jerks.

I have 2 grandkids that do not see their father and he does not pay child support--in fact he's fighting it in court and I say--if they are fathers to their kids--pay up or be a man. Looks like Mr.Synder fails to do both.

Seriously, $200 a month? EVERY MONTH??? Maybe that covers her gas to shuttle her sons around. Maybe that covers one therapy session at the hospital for the disabled son. It certainly does not provide a future for either boy. Sorry, Dorothy, but you and David having a life is not nearly as important as those boys. David does not deserve anything above the poverty level until he pays what the courts ordered. If the courts are unfair, then fight it legally. He has kids - they come FIRST, ALWAY.
