Prosecutors have charged two women in the attempted robbery of the Community Wide Credit Union on July 23 in Mishawaka.

Charging documents show that 18-year-old Rachael Guevara of South Bend and 22-year-old Candice Wafford of Mishawaka have been arrested and charged with attempted robbery, a Class C felony.

On July 23, Mishawaka police were dispatched to the credit union after two women had handed a teller a note that read, "Put $2,500 in an envelope A.S.A.P. act normal — or we’ll start shooting," according to the police report.

At that time the teller refused to give them money, warned the other tellers, and they all retreated into a back office, the police report said.

Police received anonymous information that Guevara and Wafford may have been the suspects. Later, the teller positively identified Wafford in a photo array, the charging documents said.

Guevara was brought in for questioning Tuesday and admitted her role in the attempted robbery to Detective Sgt. Kevin Will and identified Wafford as her accomplice, according to police and the charging documents. Will said that Wafford turned herself in Wednesday.

The two were charged today and were being held on $5,000 cash bail at the St. Joseph County Jail. Will said the arrests were made possible with the help of the anonymous tips.
