Annual St. Joseph River draw-down begins today
If you live along the St. Joseph River, listen up.
Indiana Michigan Power will begin its annual draw-down of the River, upstream of the Elkhart Hydroelectric Generating Station today.
The water level will be lowered two feet total in an effort to reduce ice buildup at the County Road 17 Bridge.
Those who live along the St. Joseph River, within eight miles upstream of the Elkhart generating station, may wish to make note of this in case there's any work you would like to finish along the river bank before the level rises back to its normal level.
The water level will be returned to its normal operating level during early spring.
