A Marshall County man has been sentenced to 10 years in the state prison system for selling heroin to a confidential informant.

In open court, Ralph Howard, 54, of Argos, admitted selling heroin in December 2012 in the 300 block of Walnut St. in Argos.

The case began when a Marshall County police officer worked with a confidential informant to do two controlled drug buys at the Walnut St. address.

Howard was not involved with the first buy but admitted to participating in the second transaction and was filmed during the heroin deal.

The charge was originally filed as a Class A felony since the sale took place within 1,000 feet of a public park. A plea deal, though, reduced the charge to a Class B felony and led to the dismissal of a second count, claiming conspiracy to commit dealing in a narcotic.

Howard also had a prior conviction of methamphetamine dealing in 2003.
