SOUTH BEND -

A group of South Bend kids is getting to learn about animals and offer some help at the same time.

South Bend Animal Care and Control is holding its "Summer Camp Unleashed."

Six kids are spending time at the facility in South Bend as well as pet refuge.

They are helping make yellow ribbons for dogs, work a food drive this weekend and learn a lot about animals.

"This is one of the steps in the right direction," described organizer Matt Harmon. "We're excited that the kids are going to be a part of this. That's one of the major things - our goals that they can build this future in South Bend and make South Bend a pet-friendly community. We're really excited about that."

The kids are also making crafts, playing games and learning about animal safety.

There are two more camps in August. You can contact Animal Control for more information.
