IU South Bend's new chancellor has been installed.

Terry Allison is the 5th chancellor at the South Bend campus.

IU President Michael Robbie presided over the official ceremony Wednesday.

About 600 people attended.

Allison hopes to improve student retention and graduation rates and said he is committed to creating one-on-one mentor relationships between teachers and students.

"As I am formally installed as chancellor today, I remind myself as I would like to remind you to take the time to reach out to other individuals, to make time for the mentoring conversation that may change another person's life.

Allison actually took over the job in July from Una Mae Reck who served as chancellor for 11 years.
