A standoff between police and someone in a west Bethlehem home ended Friday afternoon with officers rushing into the house and arresting a man, authorities said.
Police had gone to the house to check on a woman. Officials wouldn't say whether she was safe Friday night.
Bethlehem's Emergency Response Team took the man into custody about 4 p.m. at the 1860 Cloverdale Road home. The initial investigation determined that police had reason to arrest him, city police Deputy Commissioner Craig Finnerty said Friday night.
The man was not identified.
Police were called to the house at 10:50 a.m. to check on the welfare of a woman. Acquaintances told police they were alarmed because they had not heard from her in a while, Finnerty said. The woman also was not identified.
Minor explosions were heard just before 4 p.m. as police moved into the home, indicating the police team was using flash-bang diversion devices.
Finnerty said the investigation is in its early stages.
