MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — A trucker and his fiancée have been sentence to 20 years in prison without parole for strangling a woman at a Memphis truck stop, but investigators say they are not serial killers.

Steven Ray Kennedy and Clara Diane Lincks pleaded guilty to second-degree murder Monday, saying they used crack cocaine with Misty 'Paradise' Nelson in the past, strangled her in 2004 and dumped her body in Union County, Miss.

The Commercial Appeal reports investigators suspected the she was a victim of a serial killer who preyed on truck stop prostitutes.

The couple was arrested in 2006 for trying to strangle a prostitute at an Indiana truck stop but the charges were later dropped.

The FBI has a new initiative to combat an emerging trend of serial killings of women along the nation's highways.
