NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (AP) — A New Bedford couple is facing animal cruelty charges for allegedly throwing a dog from their car.

Police say 24-year-old Jimmy Correa and 31-year-old Jenny Torres allegedly threw the female Chihuahua, named Princess, from the car on Tuesday afternoon and then fled the area.

Police say witnesses told them Correa returned an hour later and remarked that the "stupid dog" was where he left it. Witnesses took down his license plate number and called police.

The dog was shaken up but not hurt, and will be put up for adoption.

Correa and Torres are scheduled for arraignment on Wednesday. No telephone listings could be found for them.
