DENVER (AP) — Colorado authorities say the mother of the 6-year-old boy once feared missing inside a runaway helium balloon admitted the whole saga was a hoax.

Court records released Friday say Mayumi Heene told sheriff's deputies she and her husband Richard knew their son was at their Fort Collins home. She allegedly told investigators the incident was a hoax meant to make them more marketable to the media.

Richard Heene's lawyer, David Lane, says "allegations are cheap" and that he's waiting to see the evidence.

Mayumi Heene's lawyer was traveling and didn't immediately respond to messages left with his office.

Investigators say they will recommend criminal charges against the parents.

Records released Friday include an affidavit submitted to a judge for a warrant to search the Heene home.
