LAPORTE COUNTY -- It's what you might call a political ad that's impossible to ignore.
You can't mute it.
You can't change the channel.
And, quite frankly, it's really hard to look away.
Presidential Hopeful Mitt Romney has a walking, talking billboard in Michigan City -- and he didn't have to spend a dime for the ad space.
Eric Hartsburg was tight on cash. Not the "Hey, can I borrow 5 dollars" tight -- but he needed money -- and a lot of it.
So, Hartsburg did what any relatively tech-savvy adult would do -- he turned to eBay. But instead of scrounging around his house for old baseball cards or action figures to sell -- he had something else on his brain.
Literally.
Hartsburg told the world about his eBay listing first by using Twitter.
In September he tweeted: "I am now on sale! Ad space is now available from head to toe for permanent tattoo impressions that will without a doubt last a lifetime."
And, with that, the auction began.
According to the Huffington Post, Hartsburg set a starting bid of $5,000.
For that money -- the highest bidder got to choose the design and location of the tattoo.
A Romney supporter (with 5 G's to spare) must have found the listing -- because $5,000 and a trip to the tattoo parlor later -- Hartsburg now sports a permanent "R" on the side of his face. The same "R" Mitt Romney uses in his presidential campaign.
Hartsburg posted several pictures to his Facebook and Twitter to verify he actually was at a tattoo parlor and that he went through with it.
But as Hartsburg tweeted in September, he is offering his entire body for "ad space," so it may just be a matter of time (probably 4 years) until we see him on eBay again.
