BAY CITY, Mich. (AP) — A jury has convicted one of two teenage cousins accused of fatally beating and stabbing an 83-year-old woman.

The Bay County Circuit Court jury found Shawn M. Commire guilty Tuesday of first-degree murder, felony murder, armed robbery and home invasion. The 17-year-old faces life in prison at a May 12 sentencing hearing.

Commire and his 19-year-old cousin, Robert M. Commire, pleaded no contest to first-degree murder in the June 5, 2007 death of Rita Salogar. The Bay City Times says he was sentenced Monday to life in prison without parole.

Authorities say Salogar died after receiving 42 stab wounds and at least seven blows to the head. Defense attorney Mark Janer argued that the killing was not premeditated.
