INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Police have arrested a father whose 5-year-old son fatally shot his 4-year-old sister with a handgun the boy found in their Indianapolis home.

A spokesman for the Marion County Prosecutor says that 26-year-old James Michael Booher was arrested Wednesday afternoon at the girl's funeral.

Spokesman Matthew Symons says Booher was arrested because he was considered a flight risk.

Prosecutors have not determined what charges would be filed, but Symons says Booher failed to secure the gun properly.

Police say they boy took the pistol from the top shelf of a bookcase to play and pointed it at his sister and pulled the trigger.

Police say there was no magazine in the gun, but there was a round in the chamber.
