DETROIT (AP) — Detroit student Deion-tay Watkins has given President Bush a piece of his mind. Next up: the 12-year-old's mayor.

The Detroit News reports the A.L. Holmes Academy student overachieved on an assignment to write a letter to an adult and take a stand on an important issue. He wrote Bush about the Iraq war and whether he was willing to send troops home.

The president responded this week with a letter thanking Deion-tay for his views. The student says he'll hang the letter up — despite disappointment it doesn't mention the war.

Now he plans to write Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick as he fights perjury and other charges.

Deion-tay says he'll ask about the mayor's decision to settle a whistle-blowers' lawsuit for $8.4 million and "why he's making us lose money."
