SPRING LAKE, Mich. (AP) — A gas station cashier took matters into her own hands when a man tried to drive off without paying for his fuel for the third time in less than a week.

Twenty-one-year-old Jessica Sudy jumped into the man's car as he was leaving the station in Spring Lake.

Sudy tells the Grand Haven Tribune that she recognized him early Wednesday because he had driven off without paying for gas on the previous Friday and again on Monday.

The motorist tried to steal more than $31 worth this time.

The 4-foot-9 cashier wrote down the car's license number and then hopped inside as he drove away, hoping that might stop him. It didn't, but she got out a block away.

Police located the suspect, a 22-year-old Fruitport man, through the vehicle's registration. They were seeking charges against him.
