CATO TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — Montcalm County Sheriff Bill Barnwell says a man is dead and his father injured, shot after breaking into the home of the father's estranged girlfriend.

Twenty-four-year-old Zachary Stevens was fatally shot in the chest at Kelly Keating's home in Cato Township, 40 miles north of Grand Rapids.

Forty-four-year-old Robert Stevens has a bullet wound to the leg.

Deputies were dispatched to the home early Monday after Keating reported Robert Stevens had threatened her.

Barnwell says Keating and a 35-year-old male friend were at the house with several other people when the father and son broke in by removing an air conditioner from a window.

The sheriff says the friend then shot the pair after a confrontation.

No charges have been filed.
