Mich. woman sentenced for trying to poison baby

MUSKEGON, Mich. (AP) — A Muskegon Heights woman has been sentenced to eight to 15 years in prison for trying to poison her baby daughter with bleach and a cleaning solution.

Judge Timothy Hicks of Muskegon County Circuit Court sentenced 19-year-old Shatara Jones on Monday.

She pleaded guilty May 30 to a felony charge of poisoning.

Jones and her 1-year-old girl lived with Jones' mother.

The baby's grandmother told police that on two occasions she stopped Jones from poisoning the child.

Police arrested Jones in February. They say she had been depressed.

Depressed why??? Maybe because she had a baby at an early age because she is stupid!!! She needs to drink some bleach and see how it feels!! She will get out in less than 8 years guaranteed!! They need to quit giving people a slap on the wrist for things like this!! She should be given the death penalty!!

She Should Have a taste of her Own Poison four times over and see how sick it makes her, If I was the Judge She Would never get her child back from me and would have supervised visitation Maybe she a unfit mother. My Opion if if the unfit parent should not have any right to there kids. People are allways talking about the unfit fathers here a case of the unfit mother. Too Many of the mothers use the depression thing as a excues anymore I'm finely glad a judge could see over the depresion thing.

Ah, depression - the universal excuse. Grandma should've reported this mom the first time. I'm appalled. Thank God she was never successful in the previous attempts. Hope this poor baby finds a loving family.
