GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) — A Kent County jury has convicted a 53-year-old man in the 1975 murder of a college student in her Grand Rapids apartment.

Jurors took less than an hour Tuesday to find Lamont Marshall guilty of first-degree murder in the strangling and stabbing of 20-year-old Laurel Ellis.

The break in the case came when investigators had the suspect's DNA compared with a blood drop using technology unavailable at the time of the May 1975 slaying.

Marshall will be sentenced July 23.
