ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — Talk about a strong-arm robbery.

Campus police say thieves swiped 200 lead bricks sometime over the weekend or on Monday from the University of Michigan.

The bricks weigh a total of 5,000 pounds and are worth about $2,000. They are used as barriers to contain radiation in scientific experiments.

Police tell The Ann Arbor News the thieves may have made off with their heavy haul intending to sell the bricks as scrap metal.

It takes time to steal 5000 pounds of lead. Apparently someone is not doing their job on that campus.

There are many people around that make their own deer slugs or bullets out of lead. I'd be asking bullet makers if they had some people sell them some heavy bricks of lead. That kind of lead is unusual and most bullet makers use old tire weights to melt down. This is a heavy situation.

This is probably related to the new fad for super-balloons. Odd as it sounds, kids are using old washer rollers to make a thin lead foil, they then fill it with helium from a party store and get up to all kinds of mischief. I salute the ingenuity but I do worry about what happens when one of these comes crashing down.

Yeah, Hardy. Those police need to make those thieves hit the bricks.

Sounds like the campus police need to get the lead out & find those thieves.
