GARY, Ind. (AP) — A man and a teenager are charged with attempted murder and battery in the shooting of a 12-year-old girl who may lose her sight in one eye.

Twenty-two-year-old John Fitzgerald Johnson was charged along with a 17-year-old boy in Lake Criminal Court Wednesday.

The Gary pair, who were being held Wednesday on a $100,000 bond, face charges of attempted murder, battery and criminal recklessness in the June 28 shooting of Arbriana Turner.

Turner's stepfather has said she was shot in front of her house by two people who had been involved in an argument with the girl's next-door neighbor.

She is hospitalized at The University of Chicago's Comer Children's Hospital and may undergo surgery next week to remove the bullet lodged behind her right eye.

Doctors fear the girl may lose sight in one eye.
