PLYMOUTH, Mich. (AP) — Members of a Plymouth church have made cheaper gas prices their mission — at least for a day.

The Living Word Church is sponsoring The Gas Buy Down at the Plymouth Super Center. The Thursday event was to provide gas at 30 cents a gallon cheaper than current gas prices, which average $4.18 in Michigan.

Pastor Randy Duncan tells The Detroit News the congregation has been contributing money to the cause for about two weeks.

He says the Detroit-area church concluded it was the best way to help people struggling with record-shattering gas prices.
