CLARKSTON, Mich. (AP) — An Oxford High School teacher and her husband face charges in the sexual assault of a 16-year-old girl.

Authorities say 53-year-old Margaret Keely befriended the Oxford Township girl when she was a freshman in 2006, and invited her to do jobs around the couple's home in Oakland County's Brandon Township.

The girl told police that Margaret Keely's 64-year-old husband William, a convicted sex offender, invited her over to watch a movie June 26 and sexually assaulted her. She said she fled the house, drove home and reported the incident to the Oakland County Sheriff's Department the next day.

William Keely was arraigned Thursday on charges including fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct, child abuse and weapons possession by a felon. His wife was charged with failure to report abuse.

Keely was jailed on $6.5 million bond while his wife was released on bond. Their next court date is July 15.

A message seeking comment was left Thursday with the Keelys' lawyer, Richard Rosenberg.

Sheriff Michael Bouchard said in the months leading up to the assault, William Keely engaged in "classic molester" behavior by showing the girl pornographic material and asking her to test out sex toys.

"Break down the inhibitions and the fears, then try and escalate it from there," Bouchard said.

Bouchard said the circumstances were similar to those surrounding William Keely's sexual assault of his 14-year-old foster daughter. He was convicted of the assault in 2001 and completed probation in 2004.

The sheriff said he wished Keely's wife would face a harsher charge.

"You have a spouse that is actually a school employee that invited this young girl into the home of a convicted sex offender," Bouchard said.

Put the parents of the girl in jail. They were informed that this Keely guy already had a record and knowingly allowed their daughter to hang out with an old guy. They knew this months before this was reported to the police. A little bird told me that if they look into the parents they will uncover more - ask more quests. Come on Oakland County Police! - The girls parents are going to try and sue the school to get money when they knowingly let their daughter interact with the Keelys for years.

Hey JIM. Maybe you need to wake up. He has a problem and you are in denial. You can not expect to sit there forever and keep standing by people like that. If your a half DECENT person..... you would know by now that Mr. Keely needs to be sent to jail. ITS HIS SECOND TIME. If he was "INNOCENT" the first time.......... why would it happen again? Just think about it.

Listen, MIKE. How far is your head up your butt? Would you want this to happen to another girl? Yes, he touched her and held her down. Dont play dumb. Articles wont tell you everything. This man has a serious problem, he needs to rot in prison. His wife is sick, she just needs help. She still has good potential, but deserves to serve her 93 days. Chances are, your probably related to them. SO YOU REALLY HAVE NO IMPUT.

Check the Michigan offenders program...Michigan prisons are MOSTLY fiulled with male and female sex offenders...I applaud Michign for this..but they do stepover their bounds now and then. I know a young girl who had to go to prison because she was eighteen and she had sex with a boy sixteen...they both wanted ti and still she went to prison..thats ridiculous.

I agree with Courtney. That stupid woman should go down the river also. She is even worse standing there and knowing what the heck was going on and saying nothing. It is hard for me to understand how a woman could allow something like that. You know having daughters of your own, you would think!

What bothers me is that a convicted sex offender gets foster care priveleges?? How does that happen? Don't they check these people out? The wife is just as at fault, any person who chooses to turn their head like this should be locked up as well. His perverted behavior should not be any news to her. Lock them both up and throw away the key. I hope these innocent young girls get the help they need.

I though in American we are supposed to be innocent until PROVEN guilty. The head Nazi (Bouchard) of the Oakland County Sheriff's Gestapo has already convicted these people. He's a low class politician trying to makie political hay of this.

Mike: Are you completely nuts or just partially? Does it matter if it is a first time or the 10th time. I don't think bail should have been set period. Those kind of SICK perverts don't get better. They can't be rehabilitated. They are sickos and should be thrown in jail and the key tossed out. Better yet put him to death. Save the children!!!!!!!!!!!

This pervert should not even be able to bond out of jail. Who cares how high the bond is. I hope he gets what is coming to him soon.

Jeez Mike, sounds like you're trying to placate your own conscience. Sexual assault is a physical act upon another human- in fact, "assault" means an act of violence. So you can't have violence without physical contact. Quit trying to downgrade this disgusting action.

Its good the bond is high. Fish gotta swim ya know. Let this guy out and he will be free to victimize another girl. Dont let him out at all. The bonds dor these people need to be even higher so they will stay where they belong.

To 5:53pm, Sexual assult can have many different meanings and neither you nor I know all of them. Read the artical again and read my comments again and you'll see that the artical say's nothing about raping or even touching the girl. For all we know he may have just said somethings she didn't like hearing. Yes, I agree throw the book at the guy, but can you honestly say you've ever seen a bond that high for a sexual assult charge? All I'm saying is the bond seems extremely high for the charges.

More has been added to this story since I wrote my first comments. It didn't say he was a convicted sex offender and that he was being charged with more than just the 4th gegree sexual conduct charge when I first wrote them if you'll look at the times. I still feel that he should be punished to the fullest extent of the law, but it still doesn't change my mind about the bond being set at such a ridicules amount... From what I read now it seems as though he never even physically touched her...

Thursday, Jul 3 at 4:52 PM Mike wrote ...

It seems rather obvious that someone is out to get this guy with a bond set at $6.5 million for a first time sex offence. Granted I don't know what 4th degree sexual condect consists of but it doesn't say that he raped, tortured or killed the girl. Most serial killers, rapist and drug dealers don't even have bonds set at half that amount. I'm not trying to say the guy doesn't deserved to be punished to the full extent of the law but that bond sure seems like "over kill" to me....
