GARY, Ind. (AP) — Police say a gun accidentally discharged as two siblings played with it, leaving a 14-year-old girl dead in her Aetna home.

Authorities say TyaTyanna Crayton died instantly when she was shot in the head. Police say Crayton's 12-year-old brother accidentally shot her Friday while he tried to grab the semiautomatic pistol from her.

Police say the children's parents weren't home when Crayton went into her parents' bedroom and returned with the gun, joking about firing it. Her brother tried to grab the gun and it discharged.

Detective James Gonzales says the shooting appears accidental. He says he'll present the evidence to the Lake County prosecutor for review.
